Mike Redding was standing in the middle of Alumni Field during his summer football camp this year.
At that time, the Hockomock League preseason talk was all about how Foxboro was going to win the league title.
After a 13-0 season in 2003, Mansfield was slated for the middle of the pack in the Hock because of all of the losses due to graduation.
How do you replace a senior class like the one Hornets had in 2003?
Redding wasn't taking away thing from his players on that team, but he was having trouble understanding why the Hornets were being written off too quickly.
"We beat them (Foxboro) Thanksgiving and our JV's were undefeated," said Redding on that day. "We have a lot of good players left, but nobody knows about them."
Switch to a cold day in the middle of the Curry College football field when Mansfield quarterback Tyler D'Ambra took a knee in the closing seconds of Saturday's Div. 2 Super Bowl game against Walpole, those "unknowns" were very much known to everyone in the Hockomock League and in the entire state.
With a 24-14 win over the Rebels, at Curry College on Saturday, Mansfield won their second straight Super Bowl title, finishing the year with a perfect 12-0 record. Mansfield has won 25 games in a row.
Oh yeah, those "unknowns" are going to be getting rings and jackets again this year.

(Game Eleven) Plymouth North

Jeffrey Creeden saved Mansfield from peril with interceptions in the final minute of each half last night as the Hornets escaped with a 28-22 victory over Plymouth North to earn a spot in the Division 2 Super Bowl.
Creeden, who had three interceptions overall and also rushed for a critical 1-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, snared an Alan Fernandes pass at Plymouth North's 34-yard line with 22 seconds left in the game. The Eagles were looking to make a charge following a Mansfield punt with 1:09 remaining. Instead, Mansfield (11-0) extended its winning streak to 24 games as it seeks back-to-back Super Bowl titles.
"I think it was a phenomenal football game," said Mansfield coach Mike Redding. "The two of us have been two of the best in Division 2 the last few years. We proved it was a great level of play."

Editors note: Going into the PN game the entire football team contacted a severe case of the flu.
There was a question about several starters being able to play.
